Southern California raised singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sofya Wang performs her own style of pop music influenced by experimental hip-hop, rock, and R&B. Inspired by artists like Sza, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Sia, Teresa Teng, and Lorde, Sofya creates music that combines live instrumentation and cutting-edge production. These sonic environments provide the musical backdrop for her raw, distinct vocals.
At 21 years old, Sofya’s lyrics are often playful, yet revealing. She writes introspective songs, exploring personal relationships, sexuality, and self-discovery. Her music embodies her own tomboy, masculine energy, but with a powerful woman attitude, blurring gender norms. She recognizes that “being yourself and living your own life to the fullest, gives other people inspiration to do the same”.

Jamie: What has been your experience as a queer woman of color in the music industry, and why is your art so important?
Art in general nowadays is just people connecting with authenticity. A lot of the persona that we were used to in old school doesn’t connect with people as much or their real problems. I’m just being me, and I just happen to be an Asian lesbian, so I understand that’s much needed in the world, to have representation. But it’s just based on living life authentically.
